  • Optional: 1 tablespoon honey or mustard for sweetness or tang
  • Optional: Fresh herbs parsley, thyme, or basil for garnish

Prepare the Ingredients:

  • Juice the lemon and zest it, making sure to remove any seeds. Mince the garlic (if using), and have your olive oil (or butter), black pepper, and salt ready.

Mix the Base:

  • In a small saucepan or skillet, combine the lemon juice, lemon zest, salt, and cracked black pepper. Whisk together until well combined.

Add the Fat:

  • Add the olive oil (or butter) to the mixture. Place the saucepan over low to medium heat and stir until the oil or butter melts and combines with the lemon and pepper.

Simmer and Adjust:

  • Allow the sauce to simmer for 2-3 minutes, stirring occasionally. Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary. Add more pepper for extra spice or more lemon juice for added tang. For extra flavor, stir in minced garlic or a spoonful of honey or mustard.

Final Touches:

  • Once the sauce has reached your desired flavor, remove it from the heat. If you'd like a smoother texture, whisk the sauce again. Serve immediately, or let it cool slightly before storing.

Serve:

  • Drizzle the lemon pepper sauce over grilled chicken, fish, pasta, roasted vegetables, or use it as a dipping sauce for bread.
